Riverstones Boys’ Home

We are partnering with Riverstones in on October 9th to plant a garden and put in a lawn at their facility.   Riverstones is a place that provides a pseudo-family for teenage boys who are in the foster care system. Russ, the man who runs the place, gives these boys not only a place to live, but takes them on vacations, helps guide them through high school and into college or a job, and helps with any other needs they may have as they transition from being wards of the state into being out on their own.

On August 28, as a part of the Bless Redlands Project, a raised garden was built on the property and a sprinkler system was laid in the ground on a huge dirt field.   The plan is to turn the field into a place full of life and growth, a place where the boys can run and play and also grow good food and enjoy eating from the garden.

Our next Community project at Restoration is to take the empty raised garden and bare field and start the growing process.  We will plant some vegetables and flowers, and fertilize and seed the field with grass.  Along the way we will be teaching the boys how to plant and maintain the garden and lawn so that they will be able to keep it up on their own for the months and years to come.

On Wednesday Nights we  handed out seeds, soil and pots.  The plan is to bring to the garden plants that we have already cultivated.

We are doing this as a symbol.

When we show up to Riverstones, we can tell the boys we have been thinking of them all month and that the plants are the products of those thoughts.

If you are interested in taking part, there will be a sign-up sheet at Church.

The date for the project is Saturday October 9th.

We will meet at the MacDonald’s House at 9:00AM and carpool to Riverstones.

If you have any questions or have any ideas for this or future projects please let us know.
